Isobel Egan Ceramics – Case Study

Isobel Egan is an amazing ceramic artist situated in county Kildare, Ireland where she is
both living and working. Isobel graduated in 2005 with a Master of Arts, Design,
Ceramics from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. She is a recipient of
many awards for her work including the Taylor Art Award from the Royal Dublin Society
in 1999, the Golden Fleece Award (merit) in 2006 and the Visual Art Bursary Award,
from Kildare County Council in 2014.

The initial idea for Isobel’s work starts with a simple line drawing. She loves researching
and reading. This study involves philosophy and people who have written about human
nature. When she is away from the drawing board, on her travels, she is constantly
observing cities and buildings, the architecture, space and the emotion. She states, “My
work looks at the beauty of materials”. Material is central to practice when it comes to
craftsmanship and improving these skills. Each piece of Isobel’s work is unique. At the
moment, she finds herself researching the human relationship with beauty and its
importance to the world. Very often Isobel creates artwork that she won’t exhibit but it
will inspire an idea for the next piece.

Isobel believes as a maker you are always refining your work and abilities. She sees
this as a positive challenge since you are constantly progressing in your work. Although
running your own business can be exhilarating, it can be difficult at the same time,
keeping all the plates spinning at once.

This is where Monologue stepped in to help. Isobel contacted us here at Monologue as
she has multiple roles to do herself already. We took on the role of promoting her brand
for the world to discover all her amazing designs and pieces. By discovering
Monologue, Isobel has been able to tell her story. This will help the public recognize her
and the unique artwork she produces. The look of her website is designed to reflect her
style of work. Isobel loves white as a color along with the contrast of shadows, with this
we used different shapes and colors to project her art pieces.

We built Isobel Egan Ceramics using WordPress. The website is hosted on
Monologue’s European servers and takes advantage of the latest technology in terms of
safety and speed. The navigation links include Isobel’s biography, work, shop, and
contact details. With the details she gave about her business, we can inform people of
her past work and mention where her current work and galleries are located. We also
designed a newsletter subscription to notify customers of when her new art will be
available to purchase.
